HISTORY

From antiquity
to the present day.

  1. Antiquity

The history of Gazipaşa begins with the ancient city of Selinus, dating to the Roman and Byzantine periods. Selinus was a centre of trade and settlement; the remains of the agora, theatre, baths and mosaics belong to this era. The city’s harbour lay in the bay where the marina stands today.

  2. Seljuk and Ottoman eras

Agriculture and trade flourished under the Seljuks, and building remains from this period survive today. In the Ottoman era the region grew with settlements and bridges along the coast.

  3. Republican era

A village in the 1950s, Gazipaşa became a district in the 1990s. Investments in agriculture and infrastructure accelerated the economic development of the region.

  4. Today

Today Gazipaşa is visited for its historical remains and natural surroundings. Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport is about 6.2 km from the marina.
