The history of Gazipasa begins with the ancient city of Selinus, dating back to the Roman and Byzantine periods. Selinus was an important trade and settlement center and the ruins from this period include an agora, theater, baths and various mosaics. During the Seljuk period, Gazipaşa began to develop in terms of agriculture and trade, and some remains of buildings from this period have survived to the present day. During the Ottoman period, the region expanded with various settlements and bridges along the coast and grew economically. Gazipaşa, which had village status during the Republican period, especially in the 1950s, was organized as a district in the 1990s.
